You don’t mess with Mama Bear. And Cobb County, Ga. mother definitely took things into her own hands when an intruder broke into her house and threatened her kids.

According to WSBT-TV, homicide detectives are investigating the deadly home invasion that took place last week. A 911 came in at around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, with a woman reporting that someone was breaking into her house and that she had shot and killed the intruder.

The woman, identified as Shaquita Green, said she didn’t know the suspect who came into her house in the middle of the night, but she wasn’t having it when the armed man threatened to kill her three children.

“It was either him or me and I wasn’t going. My kids weren’t going to get hurt and they weren’t going to see me get hurt,” she said.

Green said that the man, whom authorities later identified as 27-year-old Keandre Funches, kept asking for her husband, who wasn’t home at the time. After Funches forced the family back into the house she was able to reach for her gun.

“That’s when I stepped in front of them and said, ‘You don’t have to do all of that,’” Green said.

When police arrived, Funches was dead at the scene, Police canvassed the area and spoke to the neighbors. Green and her husband, who arrived just minutes after the shooting, were taken away for questioning while family members took the three children.

“The small children are now in the care of other family members, and as just normal protocol, the female is now at the Police Department being interviewed by our detectives,” Marietta police Public Information Officer Chuck McPhilamy told the news station.

Green’s husband, William Green, thinks that there is another suspect out there who brought the intruder into his home.

“They better catch him before I get them,” William Green said.

That man was identified by witnesses as Javarian Mitchell, police said. Officers said that the two suspects came to the home to meet another person who lived there. Mitchell was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, false imprisonment, cruelty to children and felony murder.

Green said her kids were traumatized by the incident but were okay. She also voiced her disapproval that Marietta investigators questioned her for about 12 hours.

“We both work full time. We’re parents. So for them to tear up my house and keep my firearm and I’m the victim, I don’t appreciate that,” she said. “I thank God it played out the way it did. I hate that someone had to lose their life, but he shouldn’t have come and brought his ass in my house, excuse my language.”
