Issa Didn’t Cheat on Lawrence in Real Life, and Angela Valdes Didn’t Snitch on Ghost. So Stop Sending the Actors Hate Mail

I hate Tariq St. Patrick and want him to die already. After four seasons of watching him behave like an ungrateful, bitchy, ho-ass child (minors can get cursed at after they hit puberty), any Power scene featuring him now physically angers me. Not even Assistant U.S. Attorney Angela Valdes has had that impact on me, so congratulations to all parties involved for that feat.

That aside, while I hate Tariq with as much intensity as Jeff Sessions and Stephen Miller have toward any black person drinking out of the same water fountain as white folks, I don’t personally hate the actor Michael Rainey Jr., who plays James St. Patrick’s eldest child on the hit Starz drama.

Why? The answer should be as easy as the Lord’s intended color of the sky, but it apparently needs to be noted all the same: He is an actor playing a character. In other words, it’s just a sweet, sweet fantasy, baby.

Unfortunately, it increasingly appears that many of y’all have closed your eyes to reality and have come and let the crazy take you on and on and on.

Back in May, Power actress Lela Loren, who plays Angela, told Page Six about the death threats she’s received:

For me, it is not so much if people hate my character, it’s when I get threats on my own personal life. It is just awful. People can wish my character dead all the time. But it is when you say if you see me you are going to cut me, rape me—that is the piece that is really hard with social media and the anonymity of people. … As a woman, it is really hard when people think they can say misogynistic things to me while I am riding the train because they saw me naked on the show. They think because [I’ve] been sexualized on television that they can approach me.

Last September, Loren took to Instagram to kindly request that you overzealous psychopaths stop sending her death threats.

“For those of you who seem unable to separate storytelling from reality—there’s help for that,” Loren wrote, according to the Los Angeles Times. “Go get it.”

Now the crazy has spread to other actors on other shows.

Just last week, actor Jay Ellis, who plays Lawrence on HBO’s magnificent Insecure, revealed that he recently got cursed smooth out on the street by a woman vexed at his character.

Ellis said during an interview on Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning:

I had somebody yell “Fuck you” at me a couple of days ago. Like literally … screaming from across the street and then … storming up to me in my face. “You ain’t shit, you’re never going to be shit, you wasn’t shit when … ” And I’m like, “Whoa, whoa, whoa!”

At the end I was like, “You realize … that’s just TV, right?” And she’s like, “You’re looking into my soul right now.”

Just a few weeks prior, actress Dominique Perry, who plays Tasha, Lawrence’s new boo thang, told Essence that she is getting hate mail:

She’s such a love/hate character. I get so much hate mail. I’ve even had a girl be like, “Oh, my God, you know I want to fight you, right?”

Chase Bank has chimed in, too:

Listen, I know it’s summer, and folks get a lil’ overheated because of the rising temperatures, brown liquor, and one’s own personal baggage that’s triggered by great acting and writing, but you niggas have to take a healthy sip of ice water and chill the fuck out.

If y’all want to have your passionate #TeamLawrence and #TeamIssa debates that feel as constant as the straight folks’ bickering on Twitter about $200 dates and eating ass, have at it. The same goes for your very passionate outbursts on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat about Power. Like, I get it, even if I’m alarmed by some of what I spot across Al Gore’s internet. So write your dissertations on the show if you must, but tuck in your inner psycho.

Stop cursing out Jay Ellis on the street. I could understand throwing underwear at him, but not your profanities. Unless he actually bummed on your couch for too long and didn’t crack your back enough, exhale, shoop-shoop and shut up.

Please do not be mad at Dominique Perry for skillfully playing a girl who just so happened to take a back-shot from a character you think belongs with Issa Rae. She didn’t write the script; she just performs the lines.

And for the love of Beyoncé’s post-twins ass, stop telling Lela Loren that you are going to take her life because you believe that Angela Valdes ruined the life of Ghost. If anything, she should be getting love notes like, “Girl, you deserve an Emmy nod because you get on my fucking nerves every damn week all summer long.”

Issa Rae told this Twitter stalker to calm down, and she’s right. If you know anyone who fits the description of crazy outlined here or, at the very least, is two-stepping toward it, send them this. Let them know that they are going too far and that you are not going to put money on their books for an arrest that was totally avoidable. Besides, there are real-life people acting like real assholes on so many reality shows out here in Trump’s America.

Save your hatred for them (but do not send death threats).
