Prayer, praise and pictures power LOC Sunday celebration

Students from The LeMoyne-Owen College made their presence felt at Brown Missionary Baptist Church last Sunday (April 22) during the annual LOC Sunday Celebration.

Dr. Bartholomew Orr, senior pastor of Brown Missionary Baptist Church, and the Rev. Elartrice Ingram, senior pastor of Middle Baptist Church-Whitehaven, co-chaired the fund-raising event.

With prayer setting the context, the sanctuary was filled with the harmonious sounds of LeMoyne-Owen’s concert and gospel choirs and Brown Missionary Baptist Church’s Youth Choir.

Before the musical selections, an art and science exhibit in the main lobby drew a lot of attention. Amongst the photos was one of young boy standing behind bars, dressed in orange. Asked about the image, a teacher said it reflected that a jail cell already is being built for a young person who cannot read by the third grade.

There were many other powerful pictures in the exhibit that shared lobby space with a lot of beautiful art pieces from some very talented students.
