Givens’ ‘Can I live Weekend’ delivers – again!

I stay tuned to the Memphis music scene and I’ve been to a ton of parties and gatherings across the city. No one throws a party better than Memphis’ own Curtis Givens.

For 17 years, Givens has been a prominent figure in the local entertainment industry and one of Memphis’ legendary party kings. Known for his operation of Level II, The Premier Nightclub and Silverspoon, Memphians show up in full-support mode for Givens’ signature “Can I Live Weekend” events.

Six events punctuated the seventeenth installment at Love Memphis last Thursday (July 18th). Givens granted The New Tri-State Defender V.I.P. access to “The Curtis Givens Experience.”

“We’re excited to be in the game for 17 years now,” Givens said. “We created Can I Live Weekend for those that work hard and like to play hard. Instead of traveling out of state to enjoy celebrity-style parties, I wanted to bring that to Memphis.”

Each event was filled to capacity. Good vibes and food flowed, the venues were beautiful and the Givens team modeled professionalism.

“This is my fifth year coming to the All White Affair,” said Mikaylah Thompson. “It seems like it’s getting bigger and better every year and I refuse to miss it.”

Over the course of the weekend, CGI Entertainment held several day parties around the city, including one at Old Dominick’s Distillery in Downtown Memphis. As a first timer, I had a blast watching a segment of Memphis’ elite party in such a fancy establishment.

My highlight of Can I Live Weekend was “The Tea Soiree” hosted by Givens’ wife, Ta’Juan Givens. It was a celebration of her second women’s empowerment brunch.

“I just wanted to create a day for all women to come out to be inspired,” Givens said. “We go through so much as women, so I felt like bridging the gap and connecting us all for a day of empowerment and relatability.”

Featured guest speakers were Chief Event Strategist Cynthia Daniels and Karleen Roy, former assistant to Sean “Diddy” Combs. The powerhouses spoke on business tips and friendships and gave words of encouragement.

Three days, six parties and a women’s conference were all wrapped into one fun-filled weekend.
