Natural Cutie Weekend Takeover promotes beauty and brilliance

Pam Brown

For the sixth year, Representing Brown Girls Productions (RBG), a Memphis-based company, is hosting a celebration of African-American women and girls.

Pam Brown, who created RBG Productions, said the annual event has been expanded to a full weekend this year and is dubbed 2018 Natural Cutie Weekend Takeover.

“I realized I wanted to reach more people and elevate my brand and the brands of the contestants who have helped build my brand over the years.”

This Friday (August 24) through Sunday, RBG will host three different events – all part of the Natural Cuties brand, which helps African-American women and girls learn to love their hair.

“It’s important that we not only celebrate the beauty but also the brilliance of black women, which is why we added the “Shark Tank” inspired business mixer and the business pitch category into the show this year,” said Brown. “People seem to be really excited about the Money Moves Mixer on Friday that has been added this year) and to see their favorite contestants coming back to reclaim the title on Sunday.”

The first event – an invite-only Mix and Mingle held for event participants, will be held Friday from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m.

The Little Miss and Miss Teen Natural Cutie Pageant is set for Saturday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at 3589 Summer Ave. Girls ages one to 17 will compete in multiple categories, showing off their natural hair. Contestants in the 13-17 group will compete for the title of Miss Teen Natural Cutie and a scholarship. They will be judged on the essay topic “Why I love my natural.”

The Natural Cutie: All-Star Competition is the final event of the weekend and is for adults only. It’s set for 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Club Paradise at 645 E. Georgia Ave. The will be food and drinks available and live performances. Natural Cutie contestants from 2011-17 will compete for the ultimate title.

“Most people have never attended an event with all of the elements we bring,” said Brown. “People can expect, fashion, culture, hair, business and the flyest naturalistas from all around. and because it’s the ALL-Star edition, people can expect everything to be kicked up 10 notches.”
