Gospel artist Jonathan Nelson – a multiple winner of Stellar Awards – sings about what he believes. So when he sounds out the first verse of “Anything Can Happen,” he’s giving testament to his belief that “because God is near, anything can happen in here.”
Nelson will be here – at Breath of Life Christian Center, 3795 Frayser-Raleigh Rd. – on Oct. 8 as Ladies in Need Can Survive (LINC), Inc. presents its 4th Anniversary Celebration of Life Gospel Benefit Concert.
LINCS’s mission is to help women who’ve been battered, grappling with substance abuse and homeless. Proceeds from the concert will go toward furthering that mission.
“In today’s society, men and women need a song or an encouraging word to uplift their spirits when confronted with trouble or grappling with addictions,” said Wanda Taylor, LINCS’s president/CEO. “Our special guest artist, Jonathan Nelson, will provide that ‘song’ and others will provide an encouraging word.”
Nelson will headline the 5 p.m. benefit concert. Other special musical guests include saxophonist Cameron Ross and a songfest by the choirs at the Pursuit of God Transformation Center, Breath of Life Christian Church, Innovation Church – Memphis, Greater Community Temple Church of God in Christ, Central Church and more.
Victoria Raftery, pastor of Laurel Another Chance Church in Merrillville, Ind., will deliver a message of hope and deliverance. Raftery and her husband, Dr. Larry Raftery, travel the nation and minister on national television and international satellite programs.
LINCS is a 501(c) 3 non-profit transitional home in the Frayser community. By design, it’s a force dedicated to breaking “the cycle of domestic violence, substance abuse, and homelessness utilizing a structured, intensive training program that focuses on transitioning, strengthening and empowering women to succeed.”
Taylor said LINCS is making a difference in Memphis and the Mid-south community – and particularly in Frayser.
“We exist solely to help steer troubled women back on the road to recovery. And that’s why a benefit concert featuring Jonathan Nelson is so important to our survival.”
Taylor called Nelson’s music soul-searching, adding that it has touched many lives.
“Memphians will remember some of Jonathan’s chart-topping songs,” she said, naming “My Name is Victory,” “I Believe,” and “Anything Can Happen.”
