THOUGHT YOU SHOULD KNOW: Staxtacular No. 15 set for Feb. 8

The Soulsville Foundation has announced that its 15th annual Staxtacular Presented by SunTrust fundraiser for the Stax Music Academy will be held February 8 at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

This year’s host is Memphis Grizzlies star Dillon Brooks.

The “GRIT, GRIND, AND GET FUNKY” event includes cuisine stations and cocktail bars throughout the museum, as well as an on site and online auction, dancing, free valet parking for all guests, and live music by the Stax Music Academy and a funk fest by Stax icons and international music stars The Bar-Kays, making their Staxtacular debut.

Tickets are limited and are $175 per person. They may be purchased online at https://bit.ly/2TAxS6H or by calling 901-261-6332. Blocks of 10 tickets are also available for $1,500.

Perhaps best known for their 1967 Stax smash hit “Soul Finger,” the Bar-Kays, who celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2017, have a career total of 29 albums, including 5 gold and 1 platinum, 40 single releases, and 20 top ten singles and albums. They are members of the Memphis Music Hall of Fame and Beale Street Walk of Fame and performed at President Barack Obama’s second inauguration.

Now in its 15th year, Staxtacular Presented by SunTrust has raised more than $1.2 million to date for the Stax Music Academy, a program of the Soulsville Foundation that also operates the Stax Museum of American Soul Music and The Soulsville Charter School.

Sponsorships for the event are still available. For more information about sponsorship, auction donations, and blocks of tickets, contact Christy Valentine at 901-261-6332 or [email protected].
