Castalia Baptist Church recruiting for 14th annual college tour

Castalia Baptist Church, 2180 Airways Blvd., is accepting applications for its fourteenth annual college tour.

Under trustee Meka Egwuekwe, the church will lead more than 40 high school students on a tour of seven historically black college campuses in Alabama and Georgia as part of its annual rotating schedule of tours.

“We are excited to continue our annual college tour into our fourteenth year, and are honored to have kids from across the city and beyond participate this year as well,” said Egwuekwe.

“We are visiting some excellent schools, as well as the King Center, and we look forward to God blessing us with another successful tour.”

This year’s tour coincides with the beginning of Shelby County Schools’ spring break. It’s open to students in grades 9 to 12 regardless of religious affiliation or school district.

Starting March 11 and continuing through March 13, students will visit the following colleges and universities:

  • Alabama A&M University – Huntsville, AL
  • Talladega College – Talladega, AL
  • Alabama State University – Montgomery, AL
  • Tuskegee University – Tuskegee, AL
  • Morehouse College – Atlanta, GA
  • Spelman College – Atlanta, GA
  • Clark Atlanta University – Atlanta, GA

The cost is $75 for members of Castalia, and $195 for non-members. The deadline for applications and the required $35 deposit is February 20, with all final payments due at orientation on March 4 at 6 p.m.

(Applications are available at the Castalia Baptist Church website at (http://castaliachurch.org). For more information, contact Meka Egwuekwe at 901-484-4203; email: [email protected].)
