Akbari announces bid for Tennessee State Senate

Tennessee State Representative Raumesh Akbari (D. – District 91) has announced her candidacy for State Senate.

Akbari is seeking election in Senate District 29, which is currently held by Lee Harris. Harris announced in 2017 his intention to run for Shelby County Mayor.

In a statement, Akbari said the following:

Serving as a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives these past four years has been one of the greatest honors of my life. As a state representative for District 91, I’ve passed 24 bills into law, ranging from bringing living wage jobs to communities in poverty, to reducing the felony expungement fee, to saving improving schools from state takeover.

As the State Senator for District 29, I plan to build on this foundation and work to increase opportunities for economic development; craft laws that are smart, not just tough, on crime; fight to fully fund our public schools; and push for healthcare coverage for all Tennesseans.

I’m proud to announce my run for State Senator, and in the coming months I look forward to hearing from neighbors across District 29 about their priorities. Working together, we can build a better Memphis.

Raumesh A. Akbari, Esq.,

State Representative, Tennessee House District 91
