In about one week, on Feb. 3, Kroger will close two Memphis-area stores — one on Lamar that serves Orange Mound, and another on South Third Street. A third store in Clarksdale, Miss., will also shutter its doors.

The move has sparked outrage and a community movement focused on ensuring that the affected neighborhoods have convenient access to quality food, prescriptions and in the case of the Lamar Ave. location — banking. The Tri-State Bank branch there will be forced to close also.

All of these issues came up during a spirited meeting hosted by City Councilman Edmund Ford Jr in South Memphis. TSDMemphis.com was on hand and broadcast much of the meeting on our Facebook Live Page, along with Ford’s comments before the start of the meeting.
