A Brooklyn rapper was arrested over Memorial Day weekend after he was involved in a parking dispute in Florida, where he had traveled for the long weekend for a performance on Saturday night.

The dispute started when a white BMW, in which Jeffrey Alexander was a passenger, was trying to parallel park in a space that was too small for the vehicle, and the BMW repeatedly hit a Buick as a result. According to police, the Buick’s owner got into a verbal argument with Alexander and the three others in the car before the driver of the BMW reportedly passed Alexander a firearm, which he used to gun down Ladarian Phillips, who died of his injuries after being rushed to the hospital.

A second man was shot in the leg during the exchange of gunfire.

The BMW then fled the scene, prompting a police chase. After the BMW crashed, Miami police opened fire on the vehicle, killing an unidentified passenger.

Alexander, who goes by 22GZ, was arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder, though he insisted that he was innocent in a jailhouse phone call posted to his “Tutu Blixky” Facebook page Monday night.

“Don’t let that news fool you, I’m innocent,” Alexander said.
