AS IT HAPPENED: Watch the #FightFor15 March commemorating 1968 Sanitation Workers Strike

As the drumbeat to #MLK50 continues to build, fast food workers, activists and union representatives gathered near Clayborn Temple Monday afternoon to retrace the steps of the 1968 Sanitation Worker strike.

Chanting “What do we want? FIFTEEN! When do we want it? NOW!” and carrying updated versions of the “I AM A MAN” placards, hundreds of #FightFor15 demonstrators marched through downtown Memphis to City Hall.

TSD Intern Canisha Robertson and I bolted out of the newsroom to capture the event on both Facebook and YouTube. Of particular note: Remarks by U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, Memphis City Councilman Martavious Jones and Mary Kay Henry, the National President of the Service Employees International Union, who had representatives from across the nation in town for the march.
