After a disgruntled former doctor opened fire at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital on Friday, Dr. Oluwafunmike Ojewoye, who is a second-year family medicine resident and graduate of the Temple University School of Medicine, was hit in the neck.

Ojewoye’s family said on Sunday, however, that her faith remained unshaken even in the wake of the tragedy.

“She was able to tell me a little bit, but everything she has told the detectives,” Paul Ojewoye said, adding, “Anybody would be scared about this. She’s scared, but she’s calm right now. God is in control.”

The gunman, Henry Bello, had purchased an assault rifle less than two weeks prior to the shooting from an upstate gun store before firing on hospital staff, shooting seven people. One of those shot was Dr. Tracy Sin-Yee Tam, who ultimately died of her injuries.
