While African Americans make up nearly 70 percent of the Memphis population, the ability to wield that strength is marginalized if there is not a show of force at the polls.

Early voting now is underway for the Aug. 4 Federal and State Primaries and County General Elections. Registered voters can cast ballots through July 30.
