Joyce Quaweay was beaten to death by her boyfriend and his best friend because he felt that she was not obeying his authority.
Aaron Wright, who is the father of her two children, stripped her naked and beat her to death with his fists and a baton after handcuffing her to a bench. Marquis Robinson, Wright’s friend, kept Quaweay restrained and moved her body so Wright could beat her body.
Wright has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, conspiracy to commit murder, and abuse of a corpse. Robinson has also been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, aggravated assault, and abuse of a corpse.
Both men were police officers at Temple University, though Wright was fired in 2012.
Quaweay’s close friend Karyn Nettles-Davis knew that she was in an abusive relationship and urges others to get out if that is the case.
“You’re not alone. There’s nothing to be ashamed about. You’re not doing anything wrong. And it can get worse,” she said. “If somebody is putting their hands on you, they do not love you. That is not love.”
