Grizzlies land No. 2 pick in NBA Draft

Well, conveying the pick will have to wait another year.

Once it was announced that the Grizzlies didn’t have the No. 9 pick during last night’s NBA Draft Lottery, we knew they would keep this year’s pick. The only question was how high would it be?

Now, we know: The Grizzlies were announced as holders of the No. 2 pick in the draft, which happens June 20. And while there was the momentary letdown of not landing the No. 1 pick — a shot at Duke star Zion Williamson — the consolation prize may well be a winner itself.

Here’s where I admit that I don’t follow college hoops anywhere close to how I keep up with the NBA. Which is my way of saying I’m about to dig deep into scouting reports about Murray State star point guard Ja Morant. The general buzz is that Morant may well be the best player in this draft and an easy pick for something the Grizzlies have never had: a bonafide NBA superstar.
