UPDATED: Broadway smash “Hamilton” opens monthlong run at The Orpheum tonight

I’ve heard quite a bit about “The Room Where it Happens,” which apparently is a number in the hit Broadway musical “Hamilton.” I’ll know for sure soon enough.

While “Media Night” isn’t until Wednesday night, “Hamilton” begins its run at the Orpheum tonight (July 9). The musical, written by Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, features a diverse cast performing a very hip-hop telling of the birth of America. This company will perform eight times a week until the final curtain call on July 28, so there are plenty of opportunities to see it — if you have a ticket.

And if you don’t have a ticket, you still may have a chance.

I’ll have more about Hamilton later this week, in both print and here on TSDMemphis.com. But in the meantime, this seems like a prime opportunity to remind readers of the #HAM4HAM — a lottery where you can get a pair of tickets for as little as $10 if your number is called.

From the Orpheum:

Producer Jeffrey Seller and the Orpheum Theatre Group announce a digital lottery for HAMILTON tickets will begin in conjunction with the show’s first performance (July 9) in Memphis at the Orpheum Theatre. Forty (40) tickets will be sold for every performance for $10 each. The digital lottery will open at 11:00 AM CT on Sunday, July 7 for tickets to the Tuesday, July 9 performance. Subsequent digital lotteries will begin two days prior to each performance.

Lottery prices are not valid on prior purchases. Lottery ticket offers cannot be combined with any other offers or promotions. All sales final – no refunds or exchanges. Lottery may be revoked or modified at any time without notice. No purchase necessary to enter or win. A purchase will not improve the chances of winning.

Tickets for HAMILTON are currently on sale. Patrons are advised to check the official HAMILTON channels and www.ticketmaster.com for late release seats which may become available at short notice.

So maybe you’ll get the chance to be in the room where it happens. That’s an inside joke of some sort and after I (hopefully) see “Hamilton,” I’ll know what I’m talking about!
