Teens rescue baby after pregnant mom dies in crash caused by drunk driver

Two Illinois teenagers rescued a baby from a car crash that killed her pregnant mother.

Sixteen-year-old Hunter Hasenjaeger and his 17-year-old friend Collin Barry were driving home around midnight when they saw the results of the horrific crash.

“I just saw the car and the whole front was totaled on the driver’s side,” Hunter told KTLA sister WGN in Chicago. “We could hear the baby crying extremely loud and screaming.”

The car contained 27-year-old Alexis Danley, who was six months pregnant, as well as her 1-year-old daughter.

‘She was hanging out the front of the car,” Collin said. “Her arm was hanging out and her other hand was reached back grabbing the baby seat.”

The two teenagers knew that they had to do something to help the child, since police had not yet arrived on the scene, so they worked together in order to rescue the baby from the crash.

The crash killed Danley, and the man who hit her, 23-year-old Jacob Kaminski, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana as well as for possession of marijuana. According to authorities, he had tried to pass another car in a no-passing zone.

He allegedly hit another car after Danley’s, a Toyota Camry carrying three people. The occupants of the other car were not injured.

As for Hunter, he has continued to visit the family of the little girl he rescued, bringing food as well as a stuffed animal for the girl.

“I didn’t even know her name but I felt a connection,” he said. “I think I did what any person should have done. That’s just how I was raised.”
