Robert Mueller Ain’t Playing: Former Trump Campaign Chair Paul Manafort’s Home Raided by the FBI

America’s last hope for a presidential do-over is being led by Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller, and he’s not playing: FBI agents raided the home of Paul Manafort, President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman, last month.

Manafort, as you may remember, was one of the first in Trump’s administration to go down for possible involvement with the Russians. Well, now it turns out that at Mueller’s direction, FBI agents executed a predawn no-knock warrant on July 26, the day after Manafort met with the Senate Intelligence Committee, the Washington Post reports.

“FBI agents executed a search warrant at one of Mr. Manafort’s residences. Mr. Manafort has consistently cooperated with law enforcement and other serious inquiries and did so on this occasion as well,” Jason Maloni, a spokesman for Manafort, told CNN.

CNN notes that raiding the home of the former campaign chair is an unusual tactic considering that Manafort has been under investigation for months and has “turned over hundreds of pages of documents to Senate investigators.” According to the Post, the documents seized during the raid were the same ones Manafort had already turned over to Congress.

Despite the seizure of possibly useless information, I like Muller’s moxie. Deploying the FBI in his investigation and running up in Manafort’s home like he’s El Chapo is a brutal show of force against an administration that is not just in bed with Russia—both Russia and America have taken down their Tinder profiles and changed their relationship statuses on Facebook.

Since May, Mueller has amassed “three dozen attorneys, investigators and other staff in a nondescript office in Washington,” CNN reports. And here’s to hoping that all of this amounts to what we already know: Invitations to Russia and America’s baby shower are in the mail.
