Review to preview: Moneybagg Yo ‘2 Heartless Tour’

LOS ANGELES – Memphis rapper Moneybagg Yo is headlining his first tour, taking the “2 Heartless Tour” to 29 small venues across North America. I caught his stellar performance at The Rey in Los Angeles last Friday (April 20).

The CMG artist dropped his “2 Heartless” album on Valentine’s Day. It spotlights features from rappers Quavo, Yo Gotti, BlocBoy JB and Lil Baby.

“2 Heartless” is the follow-up to “Heartless,” Moneybagg Yo’s mixtape that dropped in 2017 on Valentine’s Day. That tape led to XXL Magazine naming Moneybagg Yo “one of the hottest rappers to look out for in 2017.”

He certainly proved the magazine’s projection right.

His “Federal 3X” album debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 last summer, outselling SZA, Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars that week.

The “2 Heartless Tour” blends trap instrumentals with vigorous rhymes from MoneyBagg Yo’s projects, including, “2 Federal,” “Heartless,” “Federal 3X” and “2 Heartless.” Whether threatening his enemies or mourning lost love, his songs blend into one another, giving his concert an effortless flow.

He opened with his hit song “Big Facts” followed by more hits – “Doin Too Much,” “Nonchalent,” “Dont Kno,” “Moneybagg Myers,” “With this Money” and “Break Da Internet.”

Switching up the pace, he did a segment for the ladies.

“It doesn’t matter what city I travel too, women are always front row at every show,” Moneybagg Yo exclaimed. “Let me do something for the ladies!”

That was the set-up for “Ask For,” “Perfect Girl,” “Doin It,” “Side Piece,” “Ion Get You” and “Pride.”

He turned the place back hype as he performed his hit song “All of a Sudden.”

Mid-show he took over his fans’ social media pages and got in the audience to take pictures. And with that going on, he performed songs from “2 Heartless,” including “Black Feet,” “Questions,” “Back Then,” “Walker Holmes,” “Super Fake” and “FWM.”

“Shout out to the whole front, back, the left and the right, everybody in here! ‘2 Heartless,’” Moneybagg Yo said.

He concluded the show with his latest freestyle, “Rolls Royce,” which features him delivering hard-hitting bars over Memphis rapper, Blocboy JB’s “Rover” beat.

Moneybagg Yo continues to impress with his consistency. When you see his name on a track it ends up being a dope song.

Moneybagg Yo will conclude the ‘2 Heartless Tour’ at The New Daisy Theatre on Beale Street on May 11 at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale at The New Daisy Theatre box office at 330 Beale Street; online at https://bit.ly/2HMtS0H.
