5-Year-old boy crushed to death at rotating restaurant in Atlanta

A 5-year-old boy was crushed to death on Friday while at a rotating restaurant atop a Downtown Atlanta tower. The little boy was caught between a table and the wall as the floor of the restaurant moved.

He and his family were at the Sun Dial restaurant when he left his parents table. As the floor moved he became caught “between maybe 4 to 5 inches of space,” said Atlanta police Sgt. Warren Pickard.

According to Pickard, “A small child (doesn’t) know what to do in those moments. It crushed his little, small body.”

The floor did automatically stop as it is supposed to when something becomes caught. Unfortunately, the boy suffered serious head injuries and died at the hospital.

“We know they (were) the last customers for the lunch crowd, and this was very tragic,” says Pickard.

The family was visiting the city from North Carolina and the boy’s name has not been released.

The manager of the hotel, George Reed, has issued a statement of condolence to the family.

The restaurant will be closed for the Easter weekend due to this tragedy.
