Prince estate blocks new album from being released

The Deliverance EP that was supposed to be released on Friday will not, in fact be coming out, due to a restraining order filed by the Prince estate on Wednesday.

According to TMZ, a federal judge determined that George Ian Boxill had no right to distribute the music to the public due to a confidentiality agreement that Boxill allegedly signed while working with Prince in 2006.

As part of the order, Boxill was ordered to turn over all Prince recordings to the estate.

However, the order doesn’t address the fact that millions of people pre-ordered the album or the fact that several who pre-ordered it on iTunes got an immediate download of one song.

The order expires on May 3 unless otherwise extended by the court, though there is expected to be a hearing on the matter before then.
