“To all the moms out there, I was playing for you today and I tried,” said Serena Williams on Saturday afternoon, after her heartbreaking Wimbledon loss to German Angelique Kerber. Admirably, Williams made it all the way to the final round of the famed tennis tournament less than a year after giving birth to daughter Alexis Olympia, and just over a month after bowing out of the French Open due to injury.

But despite Williams’ loss, the tennis star, who’d said earlier in the competition that she had “absolutely nothing to lose” at this point in her career, certainly hasn’t lost any of our love, respect or absolute awe at her athletic prowess and incredible will. And with a 35-second spot likely created in anticipation of a triumph on Saturday, Gatorade reminded us that it really doesn’t matter whether Williams won or lost—because she played the game “like a mother.”

Because for the still-breastfeeding Williams, who narrowly survived the delivery of her daughter, making it to the final round of Wimbledon is a triumph for mothers everywhere, win or lose. And as Williams’ voice reminds us at the close of Gatorade’s spot, her tenacity is also a wonderful example for baby Olympia:

“Yes, Olympia. Your dreams can come true, too,” she says.
