It’s that time of year, again! Parents and guardians are buying supplies in preparation for the upcoming school year.

A host of organizations are sponsoring events to help meet the need.

Royal Virgin Hair Xtensions has set its A Royal Back 2 School Bash for July 28 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event will take place at the Whitehaven Community Center, 4318 Graceland Dr. Brittney Moore, owner of Royal Virgin Hair Xtensions, is a young entrepreneur and college student.

“Growing up, my parents taught me how to give back. They taught me how to share and not look for anything in return,” said Moore. “I have a passion for helping people in need, especially children. I feel it is my duty to help them in any way that I can. I want to use my business to bless others.”

Students of all ages will be supplied with free backpacks and school supplies. There will also be free food, door prizes and face painting.

Moore advocates for “more light on things that are actually positive in our community. Having events like this will give people hope. …I also believe that having events like this will help to lower our crime rates because it will allow us to reach people on a more personal level.”

Moore is prepared to help at least 100 kids and was still taking donations at TSD’s Wednesday print deadline.

Donations can be made at a local SunTrust Bank into the account dubbed A Royal Back 2 School Bash. Other options: Cash App “$BrittneyMoore123” or Paypal Royal Virgin Hair Xtensions.

Some support groups are focused on school immunizations. The Academy for Youth Empowerment and Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church are partnering to host a back to school health fair on July 28 at the church at 70 N. Bellevue Blvd. Set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the health fair will include free school supplies, food and health screenings. Free vaccinations are available, with parents and guardians required to bring updated shot records for the children.

On August 4, the John Dustin Buckman Boys & Girls Club, 1100 N. Vollintine, will host a back to school block party and giveaway from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children can receive backpacks, supplies and face paintings, along with free haircuts or hairstyles. The Mommies with Motives organization, which is designed to empower, support and give mothers a chance to network, is the host group.

Later that day, Creative Life’s “Back 2 School Bash” will take place from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Creative Life Preparatory School, 1222 Riverside Blvd. Free school supplies and uniforms will be offered, along with food, bounce houses, face painting and other activities.
