Here’s a story that’ll warm your heart –while giving you a chance to help some people at the same time.

Shelby County Schools is hosting its Operation Warm Hearts event again this year, accepting coats, winterwear and toys for students who need them. From the official page at SCS:

Our favorite winter giving tradition is back for the fourth year. Operation Warm Hearts will take place Tuesday, November 27, from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. in front of the Board of Education. This year’s event is being held in connection with the national #GivingTuesday initiative and Memphis’ Grit. Grind. Give. campaign.

We are collecting new coats and outerwear, along with new, unwrapped toys, to support our students in need this winter. Having adequate winter clothing can be the difference in a child coming to school or not, so we’re asking the community to help spread warmth to the students who need it most.

Last year, we collected hundreds of coats and hundreds of other winter clothing items. We also raised over $6,000 to purchase more coats for students. This year, we’re hoping to support even more students. Plus, we’re also collecting new, unwrapped toys to help make the holiday season a little more special for some of our less fortunate students.

Here are the items we are collecting for students:
•     Coats
•     Jackets
•     Pullovers
•     Hats & Gloves
•     Scarves
•     New, unwrapped toys

The Board of Education’s offices are at 160 Hollywood Street in Memphis. And if you can’t get by to drop off a coat or toy and would like to make a financial donation, click here.
