(blackchristiannews.com) – It took national bestselling author Daniel Whyte III nearly 10 years to complete his work “The Lost Souls of Black Folk & White Folk,” which tackles the issues of America’s sin, God’s judgment, the Church’s failures, and the enduring problem of the color line.
And while Whyte first began work on the book project nearly 10 years ago, the persistent debate over race relations in the U.S. makes the release of it timely and providential.
In the introduction to the book, written 118 years after W.E.B. Du Bois’ classic work was published in 1901, Whyte writes this:
“Five score and eighteen years ago, an educated, visionary black man by the impressive name of William Edward Burghardt Du Bois, better known as W.E.B. Du Bois, who was not a prophet but said these prophetic words in his famous book, The Souls of Black Folk: ‘Herein lie buried many things which if read with patience may show the strange meaning of being black here at the dawning of the Twentieth Century. This meaning is not without interest to you, Gentle Reader; for the problem of the Twentieth Century is the problem of the color line.’
“For the wonderful and yet strange experiment called America, W.E.B. Du Bois was right, and showed great vision, for the problem of the 20th century was and to many still is the color line. But why has the color line stubbornly persisted as one of the biggest problems in American society on into the 21st century?
“Using how God – the God who changes not – dealt with His chosen people in the past and based upon First Corinthians 10:1-12, this book will show God’s chosen people of today how to find their souls and their way again. Understanding that ‘judgment must begin at the house of God,’ it is then and only then that God’s people, black and white together, can lead America and the world past the problem of the color line, along with other problems, closer to where God wants us all to be while living on this earth ‘looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ’ (Titus 2:13).”
“The Lost Souls of Black Folk and White Folk” tackles such issues as: the abandonment of faith in America, hypocrisy in the church, racism in society and in the church, sexual immorality, adultery, divorce, homosexuality, idolatry, abortion, parental neglect, suicide, poverty, social selfishness, and politics.
This book is sure to inspire debate among readers, but Whyte hopes it inspires change – specifically, a return to sincere faith, and a final resolution to the problem of the color line.
