On Friday, while speaking to NRA members in Atlanta, President Donald Trump yet again referred to Senator Elizabeth Warren as “Pocahontas.”
In speaking about the possibilities for people who might run for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, Trump said that “it may be Pocahontas” and added that “she is not big on the NRA.”
This was not the first time that Trump made fun of Warren for her Native American heritage. He has repeatedly referred to her as “Pocahontas” and supported the claims of former GOP Sen. Scott Brown, who ran against Warren in 2012, that Warren had been dishonest in listing herself as Native American when she worked as a faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard.

“I am very proud of my heritage,” Warren told NPR in 2012 in response to Brown’s claims that she had tried to use her heritage to get an unfair advantage. “These are my family stories. This is what my brothers and I were told by my mom and my dad, my mamaw and my papaw. This is our lives. And I’m very proud of it.”
But Trump seems to agree with Brown’s assessment, and he said as much as a presidential candidate.
“She made up her heritage, which I think is racist. I think she’s a racist, actually because what she did was very racist,” then-candidate Trump told NBC News last June.
