MLGW: Collins to retire in January 2018

Will stay on past original Dec. 19 date "to ensure a smooth transition for his successor."

Memphis Light, Gas and Water President and CEO Jerry Collins is staying on the job for just a little while longer.

MLGW released a statement Friday announcing that Collins would be staying on past his previously announced Dec. 19 retirement date. It reads:

MLGW President and CEO to retire in January 2018 (December 8, 2017) –

Memphis Light, Gas and Water President and Chief Executive Officer Jerry Collins Jr. is postponing his retirement to ensure a smooth transition for his successor Initially, he planned to retire December 19, 2017, he will remain at MLGW until January 31, 2018

Collins has served as President and CEO of MLGW since 2007. He is the 10th person to lead the utility. A native Memphian, Collins previously served as Director of Public Works for the City of Memphis. His career as a public servant spans more than 30 years.

MLGW is the largest three-service public power utility in the nation, serving more than 420,000 customers in Memphis and Shelby County with some of the lowest combined rates in the U.S.Â
