The Blues Foundation announced nominees for the 39th Annual Blues Music Awards. This year’s nominees include artist with local connections like Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Bobby Rush, Southern Avenue, R.L. Boyce, Robert Cray and North Mississippi Allstars.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at The Memphis Cook Convention Center May 10.

Award winners are determined by the membership of the Memphis-based Blues Foundation. ArtsMemphis, Tennessee Arts Commission, AutoZone, BMI, Ditty TV, First Tennessee Foundation, Gibson Foundation, and Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau provide funding for the Blues Music Awards.

Twenty six awards will be handed out this year including the B.B. King Entertainer of the Year award which Bobby Rush is a contender for. Also being considered for Entertainer of the Year is Michael Ledbetter, Rick Estrin, Sugaray Rayford and Taj Mahal.
