Mother sets house on fire with family inside because she felt ‘disrespected’

Mother sets house on fire with family inside because she felt disrespected news Disrespected Fire Mom

A South Carolina woman was arrested and charged with arson and attempted murder after she tried to burn down her home while her family was still inside.

On Saturday, Willie Mae McQuilla, 67, was taken into custody after authorities responding to the blaze stopped to question her. According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, after deputies arrived in response to the arson, authorities began to receive more calls identifying McQuilla as the suspect. McQuilla allegedly admitted to starting the fire after a sheriff’s deputy spoke with her while firefighters were responding to the scene. She reportedly said that she had started the fire after barricading the doors.

McQuilla’s husband, as well as her two grown children, were thankfully able to escape the fire without injury.

On Monday, a spokesperson for the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office told the Daily Mail that McQuilla gave her reason for trying to burn down her home and family as simply that “she was tired of being disrespected.”
