There wasn’t a dry eye in the room after the premiere of “After the Love Has Gone” was showcased at the Landers Center in Southaven, Miss., this past Saturday.
Directed by filmmaker and playwright C.L. Woodson, the stage play offers a story of grief, hope and redemption that some couples could find relatable during times of marital strife. “My mission is to inspire through the word of God,” said Woodson in an exclusive interview with The New Tri-State Defender.
“After the Love Has Gone” is centered around the marriage of Bryson and Bianca. After dealing with an act of infidelity by her husband, Bianca struggled with forgiveness which ultimately pushed her into the arms of another relationship.
“God truly blesses the union of marriages, and usually at the sign of problems, couples tend to want to throw the marriage away,” said Woodson. “In this play, you will experience the ride of what Bryson and Bianca are going through in which the problems began through a situation that started via social media.”
After realizing his mistakes were the reason his marriage was failing, Bryson was determined to redeem his marriage through the advice of his friends and his hilarious pastor, played by Gemini Porter from the 90s R&B group Men at Large.
“I really wanted to touch on the social media topic because nowadays that’s the number one demise in relationships, married or not,” Woodson said. “I was inspired to put this out on the forefront after witnessing this firsthand with a close friend.”
Overall, if you are single, married or in a relationship, putting love and communication first were just a few of the lessons on display during this stage play. “My goal is to touch souls,” said Woodson. The audience should be prepared for just that as they experience a rollercoaster ride full of emotions that will leave them on the edge of their seats.
