How a Local D.C. News Station Normalized Hate and Murder With a Single Tweet

Twitter

While many families across the country are celebrating this year’s graduating class of 2017, Richard Collins III’s family is in the midst of planning his funeral after he was killed by Sean Urbanski, a man who loved killing deer and the Baltimore Ravens.

Collins was set to graduate this week from Bowie State University, and seemingly had everything going for him until he crossed paths with Urbanski on the College Park campus of the University of Maryland. The encounter left Collins dead, after being stabbed by Urbanksi, who according to WUSA9, was a JV basketball player in high school.

WUSA9, who refers to itself as the D.C. area’s #1 news source, is just like many mainstream news outlets when it comes to normalizing hate and trying to paint a pretty picture when it comes to white murder suspects.

In their article, not once did the news outlet mention his victim’s name or the alleged crime that Urbanski committed. But they did a remarkable job of writing how great Urbanksi seems on paper, and how well rounded he seemed to friends. And of course, Urbanski didn’t have a racist bone in his body, even though he was a member of a white supremacist Facebook group.

If you’re not familiar with the neighborhood of Severna Park, Md., let me just explain to your how it’s very white. And the District 5 Councilmember Michael Peroutka, was on the board of the League of the South, a known hate group.

But none of that is relevant, because Urbanski grew up in a “in a well-kept ranch-style home a few blocks from his high school”.

None of this should be shocking.

When white people commit murders, their story includes things about them being loaners, or being liked by everyone. And they’re even taken to Burger King after they’ve killed a church filled with people.

As a black person, you better have lived a squeaky clean life, whether you’re the victim or the assailant. And luckily for Collins, his life was about as squeaky as it could get. Too bad it was cut short by a racist POS, who liked killing deer (and maybe black people too).

Oh, by the way…WUSA issued an apology:
