#TheRootTrip: Chillin’ in Style in Birmingham, Ala.

Courtesy of Marriott Hotel

More chillin’ at a black-owned hotel! This one is the Residence Inn by Marriott Birmingham Downtown at the University of Alabama-Birmingham at 821 20th St. South and it’s another property held by the black-owned Capstone Development Investment Group.

Back in 2013, the group purchased this seven-story, 129 room hotel for $20 million in cash. You’ve gotta be a big baller if you’re pulling twenty mil out of your local ATM to buy some hotel rooms, wouldn’t you say?

The hotel is top quality and like most Residence Inns, you kinda feel like you can stay for a long time, which is sorta the point. This particular hotel is close to the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, and right next to the downtown business district. Check it out! Total amount spent at this hotel? $200. Total spent with black businesses? $593 dollars.
