A charter school in Orange Mound has received a $5,000 grant towards the innovation of its parent resource center on Friday, November 17.
Arrow Academy of Excellence was awarded the grant last Friday (November 17) from First Tennessee’s Community Development Fund, which was created to support organizations serving low- to moderate-income communities.
“Our goal is to provide financial empowerment tools and support our low- and moderate- income neighbors and neighborhoods so the entire community grows stronger together,” said Bryan Jordan, chairman and chief executive officer of First Horizon National Corp.
Arrow Academy’s Parent Resource Center is being created to assist parents to better support their children, students at Arrow Academy. The Center will provide tools and materials – including computers – that parents can check out and use at home.
“The goal is to work with parents to give students, present and future, the greatest opportunity for success in the early years of school,” said Dr. Andrea Mayfield, principal of Arrow Academy. “One of the most important factors contributing to school success is parent involvement in education.”
The Parent Center will model a library for easy and accessible use of resources. Certified teachers and assistants on staff will assist parents in finding material that best suit their child’s learning needs as well as training to use the materials.
Arrow Academy of Excellence currently enrolls kindergarten to third grade.
