Magicians upset Xavier University Homecoming with tight 85-84 win

Lemoyne- Owen College gave Xavier University of Louisianna a heartbreaking homecoming defeat this past Saturday, 85-84.

The loss was handed to Xavier University in front of a  season-high crowd of 2,264 at the Convocation Center in New Orleans. LOC men’s head coach William Anderson was very pleased with how his team handled their first away game of the season.

“I think we played well in front of a hostile environment being it was their homecoming and playing in front of a big crowd,” he said.

Even though the Magicians won, Anderson didn’t like the fact that the game ended so close. LOC had a 12-point lead in the second half.

“I’m not quite pleased where we are defensively but we have to make better decisions down the stretch,” he said. “We just didn’t make good decisions in the end so Xavier was able to make shots closer to the end to finish the game so close.”

Tyrone Banks made 18 points on the night, while Devin Booker had 17 points getting all five of five free throws.

LOC will be back home at the Bruce Johnson court this Saturday and will face off against Delta State University.

Coach Anderson is eagerly looking forward to improvements in certain plays.

“We are going to continue to play together, play great defense and take care of basketball, and try to get our open shots and free throws.”

Tip-off is at 4 pm.
