All COVID-19 vaccination sites will remain closed Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 20-21), except for the Southwest Tennessee Community College Whitehaven site.
To make up appointments missed due to inclement weather, individuals who had scheduled appointments at SWTCC on February 11th and February 12th are rescheduled to the same time as the original appointments this Saturday (Feb. 20).
Persons with scheduled appointments at SWTCC on Tuesday (Feb. 16), Thursday (Feb. 18) and Friday (Feb. 19) are rescheduled to the same time as their original appointment on Sunday (Feb. 21). There is no need to reschedule appointments.
Those with appointments at the other sites will be automatically rescheduled on the same day of the week, time, and location next week. There is no need for anyone with a scheduled appointment this week to make a new appointment. They will receive an email with their new appointment date.
The Health Department is vaccinating first responders and health care workers listed in Phases 1a1 & 1a2, funeral/mortuary workers and all persons age 70+. Future new appointment availability and updated information regarding closures will be posted at https://shelby.community/.
Other providers are also vaccinating persons in the priority groups, including:
- Veteran’s Administration – Now vaccinating all veterans age 65 and older at the VA Medical Center at 1030 Jefferson Ave.. Veterans must be enrolled with the VA at www.va.gov to receive vaccination.
- Walmart – Now vaccinating those in group 1a1, 1a2, 70+. To schedule an appointment, go to https://www.walmart.com/cp/1228302.
 The City of Memphis now will be handling the operations of the Pipkin Building vaccination site in addition to its operations at the Appling site and a new Raleigh site that is set to open next week.
In his weekly update, Mayor Jim Strickland said roughly 10,000 to 15,000 doses are being administered each week county-wide.
“As the national number of vaccine doses continue to rise, the ultimate goal is to be able to vaccinate 30,000 or 50,000 people a week as the supply grows, and we feel confident we have the right model to do it.”
At the Appling location, the most recent average wait time was dropped to 17.5 minutes with the longest average wait time at 32.5 minutes, Strickland asserted.
“We achieved this by doing two simple things. First, you must have proof of an appointment. Second, telling people to not arrive more than an hour ahead of their scheduled time. We will replicate these procedures at other vaccination sites as we open them.”
