TheView co-host Whoopi Goldberg criticized Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson for creating controversy over the new Planet of the Apes movie. Mckesson wrote in a tweet that has since been deleted, “Given the history of black people as apes, I am offended and appalled by the lack of consciousness in Hollywood.”

Mckesson accused filmmakers of mocking him by dressing up one of the apes in a blue vest, which Mckesson is known for wearing.

Goldberg’s response to Mckesson was that he needed to go back and watch what the apes were wearing in the 1968 original movie. “This has nothing to do with you.” Goldberg said. “ This is a movie about what happens when mankind doesn’t pay attention to environment, to how we treat animals and each other.

“Get over yourself,” Goldberg stated.

Mckesson tweeted his response to Goldberg’s comments by saying, “After speaking with even more people about the history of the film, I deleted the tweets.”
