At last! Boil water advisory lifted!

After MLGW's pitch for a rate hike as a "necessary remedy for decades of disinvestment and failed decisions," the Memphis City Council gave its OK. The increase will pay for a systemwide overhaul of the utility’s infrastructure.

The word came via a Memphis, Light, Gas & Water release at 3:05 p.m.

“Effective immediately, the precautionary boil water advisory is lifted for all MLGW water customers.”

That means there are no restrictions on the normal use of drinking water.

The advisory was lifted after the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation gave assurance that safety standards had been met.

MLGW issued the boil water advisory following the crippling winter storm that brought freezing temperatures that caused water main breaks and private property leaks that resulted in low water pressure.
