LENS & LINES: Show of respect, support for Chef Gary Williams

Chef Gary Williams had many, many friends partly because he had a knack for making people feel special.

On Friday a stream of those friends/customers flowed into Krewe of DeJavu on Florida St., where he was the chef. Williams, the former owner of DeJa Vu Restuarant, passed away on Wednesday.

He was 56.

Brian Harris and Phillip Ashley Rix, two of Williams’ many friends, orchestrated Friday’s gathering. Customers got what they always get — good food and warm atmosphere. Encouraged to leave healthy tips as part of fundraiser, they did so. The funds are to offset funeral costs and for use in keeping the restaurant open.
