Jalissa Marshall and Sequoria Wilson-Chatmon are teaming up to raise funds for homeless veterans.

Homelessness is ongoing, winter is coming and veterans are among those very much in need.

On Nov. 2, starting at 8 a.m. and continuing until 10:30 a.m., Warm Hearts Homeless Veteran Drive will host a winter clothing and food drive at First Presbyterian Church, 166 Poplar Ave.

Best friends and volunteering duo, Sequoria Wilson-Chatmon and Jalissa Marshall, who sponsored the “Help the Homeless Veterans Clothing Drive” in August, will lead the event that will provide winter clothes, food, and items to help get them through the winter weather.

Feedback from an earlier event prompted the upcoming drive.

“During the last drive, many of them requested items such as blankets and coats,” said Wilson-Chatmon. “We told them we would be back with those items to ensure they are covered before the winter and we’re sticking to that promise.”

Those in need of such items – or those who want to donate – are encouraged to attend. Wilson-Chatmon and Marshall, along with a host of volunteers and other “kindhearted people in Memphis,” have made donations. Sneed Dental Arts of Collierville donated cases of toothpaste and Curry and Jerk, a local restaurant, will be providing breakfast sandwiches. All other donations received came from the kindhearted people in Memphis.

The goal is to provide clothes, coats, blankets, shoes, snacks and breakfast to at least 100 homeless men and women.

Wilson-Chatmon extended an open invitation to “show up and help us serve. …And have a conversation with some of the people that show up.”
