The landscape of the entire NBA changed over the weekend. Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan are the makings of a superteam in Brooklyn; Jimmy Butler’s departure to Miami opens the way for the Sixers to sign Al Horford; Kemba Walker will be in Boston and Terry Rozier will take his place in Charlotte.
And whlie nobody expected the Memphis Grizzlies to make big splashes in free agency, they did make a few ripples. I’ll dig into this more in this week’s print edition, but here are the transactions so far:
Valanciunas returns
The Grizzlies have resigned Jonas Valanciunas to a three-year $45 million contract, sources say. The move was expected when Valanciunas opted out of the $17 million final year of his previous contract.
Once free agency opens at 6 PM ET, center Jonas Valanciunas is expected to commit to a three-year, $45M contract to return to the Memphis Grizzlies, league sources tell ESPN.

Iggy to Memphis
Former Finals MVP and multiple NBA Champion Andre Iguodala is headed to Memphis, multiple sources are reporting. Iguodala and a future draft pick are headed to Memphis as Golden State tries to facilitate the sign and trade that will send Durant to Brooklyn and bring All-Star guard D’Angelo Russell back to the Warriors.
Golden State is trading Andre Iguodala to the Memphis Grizzlies, league source tells ESPN. Warriors are sending a 2024 protected first-round pick in the 2024 (protected 1-4), 2025 (protected 1) and 2026 unprotected.

And I’m hearing rumors that the Grizzlies have added another sharpshooter from Europe. More as I find out more . . . but it’s been wild, so far. Stay tuned for analysis and insight . . .
