Representative Al Green, a Democrat from Texas, called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump on Wednesday, and since that time, he has received calls filled with racial epithets and even threats of lynching.
According to theย Houston Chronicle, Greenย played the recordings for about 100 attendees at a town hall.
โHey Al Green, weโve got an impeachment for you. Itโs going to be yours,โ one caller said. โItโs actually going to give you a short trial before we hang your ni**er a**.โ
โWeโll lynch all you f**kinโ ni**ers,โ another said. โYouโll be hanging from a tree.โ

โIt does not deter us,โ Green told the attendees. โWe are not going to be intimidated. We are not going to allow this to cause us to deviate from what we believe to be the right thing to do, and that is to proceed with the impeachment of President Trump.โ
Still, Green noted that he has been taking proper security measures since getting the calls.ย โWhen people say that they will lynch you, I think you have to take that seriously,โ Green told MSNBC host Joy Reidย on Saturday.
Green took to the floor of the House of Representatives on Wednesday to propose impeachment, and over 20 other members of Congress have joined him.
โI rise today, Mr. Speaker, to call for the impeachment of the president of the United States of America for obstruction of justice,โ Green said in calling for Trumpโs impeachment. โI do not do this for political purposes. I do it because, Mr. Speaker, there is a belief in this country that no one is above the law. And that includes the president of the United States of America. Mr. Speaker, our democracy is at risk.โ
