The City of Memphis has implemented its hot weather plan with the establishment of a Continuous Cooling Center at Bellevue Junior High School Gymnasium at 575 S. Bellevue Blvd.
The Cooling Center opened Wednesday evening and will operate through July 23 at 7 a.m. for those seeking cooling after normal business hours.
It is designed as an escape from extreme conditions – a heat index of at least 105°F for more than three hours per day for two consecutive days, or a heat index more than 115°F for any period of time.
For assistance regarding transportation to the Cooling Center, call the City of Memphis, Office of Emergency Management (OEM) at 901-636-2525.
Those seeking overnight accommodations are encouraged to seek assistance from The Union Mission, at 383 Poplar Ave., or The Salvation Army located at 696 Jackson
