As of Jan. 6, 2024, Shelby County reported a total of 318,416 cases and 3,767 deaths. This marks a significant increase, taxing the county’s health resources. The median age of fatalities stands at 72, spanning a range from 10 to 107 years.

Tennessee’s overall numbers are also on the rise, with the state reporting 2,674,390 cases and 30,031 deaths as of the same date. Meanwhile, Arkansas has recorded a total of 72,717 cases and 558 deaths since early 2023.

Health officials urge the public to remain vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines. The updated COVID-19 vaccine, made available in fall 2023, is currently offered at various Shelby County Health Department locations and retail pharmacies.

As the Mid-South grapples with the latest wave of infections, the importance of vaccinations and booster shots is being emphasized to combat the ongoing pandemic.
