DMX has been charged with 14 counts of tax evasion and has already surrendered himself to the authorities.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York City, DMX spent several years hiding his income and now owes $1.7 million to the IRS. Documents filed against him claimed that his musical hits in the early 2000s, including “X Gon’ Give It to Ya,” gave him way more money than he told the federal government.

The Attorney’s Office claimed that DMX was able to hide his income by using surrogate accounts, using the names of people like business managers, and by living on cash.

Additionally, the documents claimed that DMX was promised $125,000 for “Couples Therapy” and became upset when the proper amount of tax was withheld from the paycheck he received. He went back to the producers and demanded that he be paid the full amount, and he was.

As for the numbers, the documents say that DMX said that his income for 2011 and 2012 was “unknown,” even though he actually made $353,000 and $542,000 respectively during those years. And when he did report income in 2013, it was a paltry $10,000, nothing next to what he had actually made that year: $250,000.

DMX now faces up to 44 years in prison and will be officially indicted on Friday morning after turning himself in on Thursday.
