Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity & Zeta Phi Beta Sorority chapters in Memphis and throughout the country are encouraging the “blue and white family” to support the new movie “Emanuel” during special showings June 17 and June 19.
“Emanuel” is a recount of the June 17, 2015 story of churchgoers who were gunned down by a 21-year old white supremacist during prayer service at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.Car.
NBA All-Star Stephen Curry and Oscar-winner Viola Davis team up as executive producers for the film, which is billed as the official documentary of the “Charleston Church Shooting” and the untold story of the healing that followed. Interviews with survivors and family members accent the movie, which reflects the intersecting of justice and faith, love and hate.
Micheal E. Cristal, international president of Phi Beta Sigma, and Valerie Hollingsworth Baker, international grand basileus of Zeta Phi Beta, are asking all Sigma and Zeta Chapters around the nation to purchase pre-sale tickets and coordinate True Blue & White Movie Night events at selected local theaters.
Minus the movie’s production and distribution expenses, all resulting revenue will be donated to the families of the victims who lost their lives.
