Family of Robert Godwin Sr. say they forgive shooter

The family of Robert Godwin Sr., the man who was killed in a video posted to Facebook by suspect Steve Stephens, are now speaking out, not only to forgive the shooter but to ask him to turn himself in.

“One thing I do want to say is I forgive him. Because we are all sinners,” Robert Godwin Jr., Godwin’s son, told CNN Monday night. “If you’re out there, if you are listening, turn yourself in. You’ve done enough damage, just turn yourself in.”

Godwin’s daughter Tammy chimed in asking the shooter to “give us closure,” saying,  “Just turn yourself in. We don’t hate you. You took something from us and we still don’t hate you.”

Naujia Goodwin, another of Godwin’s ten children, said that she found out about her father’s death on social media from friends and family. “At first I was angry,” Naujia said. “I was like ‘Why would you do that to my dad? Why would you put it online?’” But, she added, “I guess my dad had to die for people to realize life wasn’t guaranteed.”

Stephens has been placed on the FBI’s 10 most-wanted list and is current the subject of a multi-state manhunt in progress.
