Grizzlies drop preseason finale to Spurs

The Grizzlies never led in their 91-104 preseason finale in San Antonio. Once the Spurs built their lead, Memphis could never quite catch up. Blowing wide open layups certainly didn’t help the cause

But oh boy, did they try. And they got close a few times. But if there’s one encouraging takeaway from this preseason, it’s this: They didn’t quit.

On a night when the shots weren’t falling — they only shot 34 percent on the night and 20 percent from the arc — the young cubs relied on a swarming, relentless defense to help keep them in a game they really had no business being in.

Ja Morant led Memphis with 16 points and six assists, including a give-and-go dunk with the assist from Jaren Jackson Jr. and a nifty behind the back pass to Brandon Clarke for another dunk. Jackson added 11 points, while veteran forward Jae Crowder paced the Grizz on the boards with 11 rebounds.

Check out the highlights from the game above and get ready: the regular season tips off Wednesday in Miami before the Grizzlies return for their home opener on Friday, Oct. 25.
