The Lemoyne-Owen women’s basketball team has continued to struggle in the New Year, losing their last two games.

Last Saturday, the Lady Magicians played SIAC rival Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala., losing 60-51.

Lamontazia Blair led all scorers in the game with 16 points, including going 4-4 from the free-throw line. Amil Mitchell added 13 points and four rebounds.

The Lady Magicians struggled to score early on, only making 3 of 15 shots in the first half. Meanwhile, Spring hill shot 53% from the field, going 8-15. Tiffany Valentine led Spring Hill with 13 points and a flawless 7-7 from the line.

It was likely free throws that decided the game. Spring hill shot and made more, going 19-23 from the line, while LOC was 10-14.

From there, LOC traveled to Tuskegee University for another SIAC/HBCU matchup, where they fell to Tuskegee, 79-71 at the Chappie James Arena.

Despite the loss, it was a solid team effort from the Lady Magicians. Three players had double-digit points: Gabbie Morgan (23) Lamontazia Blair (18) and Amil Mitchelle (16).

Tuskegee’s Ashiala Jackson pushed the Golden Tigers to victory with 25 points along with an impressive 14 rebounds.

LOC is back in action Saturday as Central State University comes to Memphis. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m. at the LeMoyne-Owen campus.
