After recovering from open-heart surgery, Shaheem Young Jr. let it be known that he intended to be a policeman once he reached manhood. And while the elementary school student still has some growing to do, this week he took on the look of an officer in uniform.

In a post-surgery interview by local media in January, Young shared his police-officer desire. Moved by his story, Memphis Police Department (MPD) officers swung into action, gifting him on Thursday (Feb. 13) with a custom-made uniform and a surprise visit to the Airways precinct.

Young’s irregular heartbeat was detected during a physical by Well Child, Tennessee’s largest school health care provider.

Well Child teamed with MPD to create a career-day experience and lasting memory for the Egypt Elementary School eight year old.
